IRS Proposes Permanent Excise Tax Regs – The Federal Register of March 31, 2016, carried a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking from the federal Internal Revenue Service proposing permanent rules for the 12 percent excise tax on the sale of trucks, trailers, and parts and for the federal tax on heavy tires.

Status of NY HUT

New York State Highway Use Tax – Permits & Decals
Owner-Operator Independent’s Drivers Association (OOIDA) filed a class action lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of taxes that impose $15 for a certificate of registration and a $4 decal charge on all trucks using New York state highways.

Trucking Industry Warning – Georgia

Georgia’s New Title Ad Valorem Tax (“TAVT”) will go into effect on March 1, 2013, as Georgia House Bill 80 remains in a state of flux. The trucking industry is getting tax again! This means that the purchase of a truck/tractor in Georgia will have a new TAVT of $8,125. The current Ad Valorem taxes for this same truck/tractor would be approximately $375 per year.
